TEAM MINISTRY

No one does ministry alone. We are better together.

TEAM FOUNDATION

NEVER ALONE - As a member of the staff, you are part of an amazing and unique team of people. We want to be involved in each other’s lives. Friendships matter. We want to experience deep, significant, and loving relationships with one another. We are interested in you, your family, and your personal spiritual growth. We succeed together. We fail together. We laugh, cry, celebrate, and fight - together.

WE BELIEVE IN YOU - We believe God called you here and has given you the wisdom, skill, and resources necessary to faithfully steward the primary responsibilities entrusted to you. We trust you. We need to hear your voice. We want your influence to shape the future of this church, not simply in the area you lead, but throughout the church.

WE ARE FAMILY - We are a ministry family. We work together for the benefit of one another and the people we serve.

ONE CHURCH, MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

Our church is a community of believers connected to one another in a covenant relationship built around shared vision, values, methods, resources, and personnel.

The unity of the church is based on shared doctrinal values, common spiritual practices (discipleship), intentional community influence (evangelism), mutual submission to collaborative leadership, cooperative financial support, and sacrificial volunteer (missionary) sending.

ELDER LED, CONGREGATIONAL

The Church Council is made up of men, biblically qualified to be elders. They are the ultimate authority for our church in matters of biblical interpretation and disputes arising from these interpretations. They faithfully lead their respective ministry teams. They provide overall leadership to the church through prayer and commitment to the Word of God.

We are a congregational church. The congregation (all members of every location), led by the leadership of the Spirit, influences the direction of the church through the selection, election, and approval of the pastoral staff, church council, annual budget, acquisition and disposition of real estate and debt.

BUILDING AND MANAGING YOUR TEAM

BUILD TEAMS - Your team extends ministry beyond your personal reach and capacity. It’s made up of staff, volunteers, and participants.

BUILD SYSTEMS - A system provides the vision, scope, training, and resources for your team to achieve maximum effectiveness over and over again. An effective system is simple, sustainable, easy to repeat, duplicate, and refine.

DELEGATE RESPONSIBILITY - This is the essence of discipleship, to teach someone what you know and entrust them with the authority and responsibility to do it themselves.

VALUE VOLUNTEERS - This is another example of the essence of discipleship. We are called to equip the saints to do the work of ministry. Minister through volunteers. Connect volunteers to their calling. Equip them to serve. Appreciate their service. Minister to their needs. Give them a way in, a way out, and a clear definition of success.

TO BUILD A TEAM - DRAW A CIRCLE

TO MANAGE YOUR TIME & TEAM - FOCUS WELL WITH THE LENS

TO PLAN AN EVENT - RIDE THE WAVE

BETTER BEFORE BIGGER

Exceptional quality is the foundation of healthy growth.

  • We work to exceed expectations in all we do.

  • We work to surprise and delight those we serve.

  • God is in the details, so we are detail-oriented.

  • We measure success. While we aren’t driven by numbers, they do reveal our effectiveness and help us know what adjustments need to be made.

  • Evaluate Everything

    • What do people say?

    • What frustrations do they have?

    • What was actually produced?

COMMON CHARACTERISTICS

These characteristics reflect our heart and practice of ministry together. They are our foundational assumptions of one another.

  • We believe the best about one another.

  • We all love God, love this church, and love one another.

  • We will never talk about you until we first talk to you. When we talk about you, it will only be for you, never against you.

  • We are quick to confess and repent when we are wrong.

  • We are quick to forgive when we’ve been wronged.

  • We work hard. We serve in a fast moving, high energy, often unpredictable environment.

    • We communicate with one another. (Support Staff, Supervisor, Colleagues, Volunteers)

    • We are available to one another.

    • We cooperate with one another.

    • We collaborate with one another.

    • Ministry never really stops. Office hours are less about “on” or “off” and more about “in” or “out”. When someone communicates well, is available to Support Staff, Supervisors, Colleagues, and Volunteers as needed, and cooperates and collaborates with others, it’s easy to say, “yes” to time away almost any time for almost any reason.

  • We look for opportunities to celebrate one another’s success.

  • We practice mutual submission out of mutual respect.

  • We all serve as one under authority.

  • We are more concerned with responsibility and communication than authority, credit, or blame.

  • We are honest with one another about those things that hurt us personally, the ministry we lead, or the church we serve.

  • We stop one another before someone walks off a cliff!

  • We graciously get in the way of people who are caught in sin, considering leaving, or who are struggling in their faith.

  • We actively look for ways to make each other better.

COMMON SAYINGS

  • We exist to love all people to Christ and equip them on their journey with God and one another.

  • We will go here, there, and everywhere to share the love of Jesus with people.

  • We believe God is doing something in us and through us that can’t be explained because of us.

  • We will use who we are and what we have for the benefit of others.

  • Jesus Christ is the hope of the world and the church is His plan for sharing that hope with the world.

  • theMission (our benevolence ministry) is our ministry to share the love of Jesus as we partner people who have things with people who need things.

  • If our church were to suddenly disappear from our community, would anyone notice and would anyone care?

COMMON DEFINITIONS

  • SUNDAYS FIRST - Sunday morning worship and groups are our best opportunity for ongoing, sustainable influence in our church and community. Everything we do pours into or comes out of what we do together on Sunday mornings.

  • CATALYTIC MOMENTS - are strategic events in the life of the church that affect a majority of the church body and involve a majority of the staff.

    • An event becomes a Catalytic Moment when it has a proven track record of church-wide effect or the Lead Staff determines it will be an ongoing Catalytic Moment for the church.

  • MINISTRY SPECIFIC - Events or activities that affect a specific demographic of the church and community.

  • INDIVIDUAL INTEREST - Events or activities that are relevant to an individual or small subgroup of a demographic of the community.

TO BEGIN A NEW MINISTRY OR EVENT (you must have):

  • CHAMPION to LEAD it.

  • VOLUNTEERS (a team) to SERVE it.

  • PARTICIPANTS who ENGAGE in it.

  • RESOURCES to SUPPORT it.

ABOUT BUDGET

  • Budget is VISION-driven.

  • We spend less than we receive.

  • We manage our budget on the front end through effective planning. This makes execution and accountability easy.

  • While we are directly responsible for the individual budgets we oversee, “my” and “your” budget are really “our” budget. We work together for financial effectiveness.

  • Budget will only ever pay for THREE things:

    • The STUFF that makes ministry NICE

    • The ASSISTANCE that makes ministry AFFORDABLE or HELPFUL

The PEOPLE that make ministry HAPPEN
